In-Space Missions Limited

Constellations of satellites are needed for applications such as remote sensing, internet from space or weather observation. However, these constellations require satellites to be deployed to multiple specific orbits. Currently, it is too expensive to use even low-cost reusable rockets to deliver satellites to every orbit.
To solve this problem, Momentus is providing shuttle and hosted payload services for satellites. Large rockets deliver our shuttles loaded with satellites into an initial orbit. Our shuttles then transport these satellites the last mile to their target orbits. Our satellite shuttles are powered by water plasma engines and make deployment of satellites at least two to three times cheaper.

In the SmallSat realm, JPL has led a number of successful missions, including MarCO, the first interplanetary CubeSats which traveled to Mars with the Insight lander in 2018. JPL also works on technology development for SmallSat instruments and subsystems. In addition, JPL hosts Team Xc, a concurrent engineering formulation team which focuses on the creation and maturation of new SmallSat mission concepts across the Solar System.
NASA Kennedy Space Center - Launch Services Program
NASA’s CubeSat Launch Initiative (CSLI) provides access to space for small satellites developed by the NASA Centers and programs, educational institutions and non-profit organizations. This gives CubeSat developers access to a low-cost pathway to conduct research in the areas of science, exploration, technology development, education or operations. The Launch Services Program (LSP) finds these rides to space for CSLI selected CubeSats by manifesting them on NASA, military, or commercial launch vehicles going to the right orbit in the right timeframe. The complement of CSLI CubeSats on a given flight is referred to as an Educational Launch of Nano-satellite (ELaNa) mission. Once manifested, LSP works with both the CubeSat developer and the launch service provider to ensure that technical, safety, and regulatory requirements are satisfied before launch.

It operates geospatial and signals intelligence satellites and associated communications systems and ground architecture to provide national decision makers, mission partners, intelligence analysts, and warfighters the critical intelligence data they need for national security. The NRO recognizes the value of SmallSats and is leveraging the concept to augment its capabilities and evolve its operations. NRO uses SmallSats to demonstrate new capabilities in space and mature those technologies rapidly and at relatively low cost, with lower risk than that of larger programs. MARS is an FAA licensed, fully operational spaceport located at the NASA Wallops Flight Facility on the mid-Atlantic coast. MARS provides low cost access to mid-inclination orbits for small, medium and medium-heavy class ELVs, sub-orbital launchers, RLV launch and landing, and payload recovery. Its location provides unobstructed access to the ISS orbit and is the primary launch site for Antares ISS cargo re-supply services. VORAGO Technologies is a privately held fabless semiconductor company based out of Austin, Texas. VORAGO has created HARDSIL technology to cost-effectively harden CMOS semiconductors against the effects of extreme temperature and radiation and have created a portfolio of SRAM and microcontroller ICs for use in extreme environments such as space.
Because it is possible to create radiation-hardened ICs more inexpensively using HARDSIL than conventional hardening techniques, the VORAGO Technologies VA10820 MCU has been adopted by CubeSat electronics designers as an affordable way to implement a rad-hard solution on a limited CubeSat budget. VORAGO has also created a reference design (the ‘RH-OBC-1’) to make it easy to design the radiation-hardened IC into a CubeSat electronics system and integrate the software.

Our in-house Cobalt 60 irradiators offer total ionizing dose (TID) gamma irradiation, high dose rate TID GC-220, low dose rate broad beam TID, and ELDRS analysis. ZARM Technik AG was founded in 1997 as a spin-off from the Centre of Applied Space Technology and Microgravity, an institute of the University of Bremen. As the institute successfully contributed to several German Space missions ZARM Technik focused on development and manufacturing of components for satellite attitude control system. Since its founding ZARM Technik became one of the leading manufacturers of magnetotorquers and magnetometers. Components produced for satellites are in use on most European and numerously international spacecrafts as the European Navigation system Galileo, Astro-H, Radarsat or NuStar. ZARM Technik AG is manufacturing for all large system integrators, universities and Space agencies worldwide. By now more than 130 missions have been supplied. A number of these are for more than a decade in orbit as for instance the Grace mission since 2002. Over the last years ZARM Technik AG has received several awards for successful work in different projects.
